The World Cup Sccer 2006
June 2006
Image This will be known as the head-butting World Cup. Why? Because Zidane head-butted the Italian player who was holding his shirt and then abused him. A sad end to a huge money making competition. Oh dear.

A Rugby Game in New Zealand
August 2005
Image On Saturday 27 August 2005 the All Blacks (NZ's national rugby team) played the Springboks (the South African national rugby team). NZ won by a narrow margin. It was played in Dunedin at the Carisbrook Stadium. What an exciting game of two halves. The All Blacks only just won in the last three minutes. This made it more exciting to watch.

Elections next month in Aotearoa New Zealand
August 2005
Image The year is going fast. The Prime Minster has just announced the date for the next election. It will be held on Saturday September 17. The papers will be full of news about politics and political parties. There have been many other elections throughout the world this year (e.g. Ukraine, Iraq, England). So many reporters must be working on all these election stories. I wonder how similar the stories are the world over?

New members from China, Vietnam, Timor Leste and Korea
July 2005
Image Many new members have been joining the site from for example China, Vietnam, Timor Leste and Korea. So welcome to you all to our community of learners. A new year of work for all those students on the site
February 2005
Image Time flies. Now it is already February 2005. A new year of study for many people has started. A new year of work for all those others has started. If you are lucky enough not to be studying or working but just travelling or being at home you may not realise how lucky you are. Those people still studying and working are getting very stressed – or is that too negative. Yes, they are all having a great time. And I hope you all do too on this site this year.

The streets of Beijing are noisy with cars and buses
September 2004
Image The streets of Beijing are noisy with cars and buses. There are tall, new buildings everywhere. People have smiles on their faces as the city is more prosperous than before. The shops are still full of many people. The bookshop in Xidan is huge and over flowing with new books and people. Tianamin square is still very popular with the tourists from within China and overseas. Great city. Great people.

Calmness
Image Calmness is the noun from the adjective ‘calm’. You can have a calm animal, a calm day, a clam manner. Having calmness is a good personal quality. It means that you do not get upset when there are difficulties. You are calm. Having calmness often also means that you are at peace with yourself and with things around you. What a nice way to be.

Sports
Image There are sports going on all around the world in every country all the time. Sometimes countries play each other at international events. Sometimes local or national teams play each other. Winning seems to be everything. But is it? When teams lose then there are often huge discussions trying to work out why things went wrong. In 2008 the Olympic Games are going to be held in Beijing, China.

Bangkok
Image This city is amazing. So full of life. Full of smiling people getting on with their job. Full of noise too and some pollution. But that is life anywhere it seems in a big Asian city. The hotels are quiet places to get away from the noise and the heat. A ride on the river (at some cost) will also cool you down.

Travel
Image It is exciting to know that one is going to travel. That is part of the great joy of traveling. Planning to go and thinking about going. Thinking about what you are going to do and about the new food that you are going to eat. Thailand and Beijing here we come.
